This week we’re learning more about deployment models. Public cloud vs private cloud vs hybrid cloud. But it can’t just be a word tacked on to your product. It has to meet 5 requirements:
- resource pooling
- resources available on demand
- broad network access
- dynamically scale with demand
- closely measured for usage and resulting cost
The more I hear about hybrid cloud, I think it will be the most versatile for what I need in the future. I do remember from last week, it can be complicated to make sure the data is safe if it travels between private and public.
AWS – oldest and most established, vast array of products
Azure – hybrid, integration with Microsoft products, straightforward cost
GCD – big data, integration with google products, geared towards developers
IaaS is virtual hardware, PaaS doesn’t manage infrastructure, SaaS fully managed. I use SaaS most often for email and Microsoft 365. It’s a bit difficult to think of them as a fully managed service. I think it would help to know more about how each type works.
